New Governor of Thailand’s Central Bank Appointed

Thailand’s Cabinet has approved Vitai Ratanakorn, the current head of the Government Savings Bank, as the next governor of the Bank of Thailand. He is expected to assume office on October 1, 2025, pending royal endorsement.

Vitai is known for supporting lower interest rates and promoting coordination between monetary and fiscal policies. Previously, he oversaw government debt restructuring programs for households.

Critics argue that his appointment could raise concerns about the central bank’s independence.
